About the course

Electrical and electronic engineers design, develop, test, and manage innovative technologies, from power generation and processing to applications in drones, electric vehicles, smartphones, navigation systems, and hospital equipment. This course equips you with specialised knowledge and skills for a sustainable future through lab-based projects, individual and team-based problem-solving, and integration of numerical, analytical, and technical expertise. In your first year, you'll build foundational principles and practical skills via laboratory work. The second year, studied at our Malaysia campus, enhances your understanding and design abilities. In the third year, options include specialising in topics at our China or Malaysia campuses, with core modules and a group project on industrial aspects. The fourth year explores advanced technologies through research-led teaching and an individual project. All courses share content in the first two years, allowing specialisation later, with the four-year MEng pathway preferred for Chartered Engineer status.

What you will learn

In your first year, you will gain an understanding of the principles and practices on which all specialisms within electrical and electronic engineering are founded. Practical and fault-finding skills are developed through laboratory and project work. In your second year, you will study on our campus in Malaysia. You will continue to improve your understanding of electrical and electronic engineering, and your design skills will be developed through a variety of laboratory-based subjects. In your third year, you can choose from a range of specialist topics to follow a wide path, or focus on specific technologies. You will also undertake a group project which examines the socio-economic and technical aspects of a major industrial endeavour. In year four you will be able to study state-of-the-art technologies taught by world-leading researchers and industrial engineers. You will also undertake an individual research project.
