About the course

This programme delves into international economics, exploring its profound influence on global communities through trade policies and the implications of financial crises. Students will master key concepts such as macroeconomics, microeconomics, mathematics, and international trade, while developing essential analytical and quantitative skills. Tailor your studies with optional modules in areas like international trade, FDI, migration, and international macroeconomics, preparing for careers in sectors including banking, accountancy, and mergers. Graduates are in demand at leading organisations such as Bank of America, Barclays, Bloomberg, and Deloitte. In the first year, build foundational knowledge in economics and integration, covering topics like globalisation, off-shoring, monetary policy, and the business cycle. The second year offers quantitative pathways and options for studying abroad. The third year focuses on advanced theoretical and applied aspects through core modules, a dissertation, and a range of specialist electives.

What you will learn

During your first year, you'll build your foundational knowledge in economics and the economics of integration. This year will help develop your knowledge of the theoretical framework for international trade and money, including topics such as globalisation, off‑shoring, monetary policy and the business cycle. In year two, there is a choice of quantitative pathways and those who wish to emphasise the international dimension of their degree can apply to spend a semester of their second year studying abroad, taking similar modules to your counterparts back in Nottingham or expanding your knowledge through other options. With core modules and a dissertation accounting for half of your third year of study, you will cover both theoretical and applied aspects of international economics at an advanced level. You will also have the opportunity to select additional modules from a wide range of specialist options.
