About the course

Artificial intelligence is transforming homes, workplaces, and lifestyles. This course offers an in-depth exploration of the field, featuring optional modules in intelligent agents, autonomous systems, machine learning, and human-AI interaction. In the second year, students engage in group projects that prepare them for future computer systems, often collaborating with industry partners like Capital One, Experian, IBM, and UniDays, enhancing CVs and professional networks. The fourth year includes master's-level modules with full flexibility, allowing focus on programming projects, advanced algorithms, or research dissertations. Taught by inspiring tutors from the Computerphile YouTube series, the program also provides opportunities for study abroad, is accredited by the British Computer Society, and requires no prior programming experience. First-year modules cover AI fundamentals like search techniques and data mining, while later years build on this with advanced topics and optional specialisations, supported by world-leading research groups.

What you will learn

In the first year, you will be introduced to the fundamentals of artificial intelligence. This will give you a broad knowledge of the field, such as AI search techniques, data mining, and ethics. You will learn the foundations of computer science. This will include modules on programming languages such as C, Java and Haskell. In your second year, you will study more advanced modules in artificial intelligence. This will build on your knowledge from the first year. You'll learn about topics such as AI techniques and algorithm efficiency. Optional modules are also available for you to study topics that you are personally interested in. These include human-computer interaction or C++ programming. Year three offers a wide range of flexibility. We offer lots of optional modules so you can choose what you study and tailor your degree to your own interests. Our modules are linked to our own research groups. This means we are able to offer a wide variety of topics. In your final year, you can choose to complete a research project. This can be in any area of artificial intelligence. You will be supported by our academic staff and world-leading research groups.
