About the course

Artificial intelligence is transforming homes, workplaces, and lifestyles. This course offers an exploration of the field through optional modules in intelligent agents, autonomous systems, machine learning, and human-AI interaction. In the second year, students engage in a collaborative group project, often partnering with industry leaders like Capital One, Experian, IBM, and UniDays, all based in Nottingham. This experience enhances CVs and builds professional networks, supported by inspiring teaching from tutors featured in the Computerphile YouTube series.Reasons to choose this course include opportunities for study abroad to gain a global perspective, an average graduate salary of £32,104 (HESA Graduate Outcomes Survey 2022), accreditation by the British Computer Society, flexibility to switch degrees in the first year, and no prior programming experience required. The curriculum begins with foundational AI topics like search techniques, data mining, ethics, and programming in C, Java, and Haskell. The second year advances to AI techniques and algorithm efficiency, with options in human-computer interaction or C++. The third year provides extensive flexibility for tailoring studies to personal interests.

What you will learn

In the first year, you will be introduced to the fundamentals of artificial intelligence. This will give you a broad knowledge of the field, such as AI search techniques, data mining, and ethics. You will learn the foundations of computer science. This will include modules on programming languages such as C, Java and Haskell. In your second year, you will study more advanced modules in artificial intelligence. This will build on your knowledge from the first year. You'll learn about topics such as AI techniques and algorithm efficiency. Optional modules are also available for you to study topics that you are personally interested in. These include human-computer interaction or C++ programming. Year three offers a wide range of flexibility. We offer lots of optional modules so you can choose what you study and tailor your degree to your own interests.
