Chemical engineers play a vital role in tackling global challenges, particularly as populations expand, by developing efficient, safe, and sustainable processes to transform raw materials into valuable products. The programme emphasises altering the chemical, biochemical, and physical states of materials, supporting key sectors like food, drink, and energy. From the first year, students engage in process and plant design while building foundational engineering skills and transferable abilities, including project management, business management, finance, analytics, and teamwork. Opportunities include a one-year paid industrial placement or study abroad, and the degree is accredited by the Institute of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) and IOM3, ensuring it meets UK standards for professional engineering competence.In the first year, students share core modules across the department to establish knowledge in engineering fundamentals, science, and design, with the option to transfer to other courses. By the third year, advanced studies culminate in an industry-focused group design project that simulates real-world environments, enhancing career-ready skills. The programme involves lectures, group work, tutorials, coursework, and self-study, typically exceeding 40 hours per week.
