About the course

Our architecture courses equip students with the expertise to design spaces that enhance living, working, and recreational environments, while addressing the creation and improvement of buildings. The programme integrates technical subjects with studio modules, allowing students in years two and three to select from up to 12 specialised units based on their interests. Through a mix of teaching, workshops, study trips, and real-client projects, participants develop in-demand skills in a vertical studio setting that fosters peer mentoring. Based at University Park, students access dedicated facilities, and our graduates have earned prestigious awards, such as the AJ Student Prize 2021 and RIBA Bronze Medal 2017. Accredited by RIBA and ARB, the course exempts from Part One exams and leads to professional pathways, including BArch followed by supervised experience and MArch. In the first year, students explore core themes like architectural design, structures, construction, environmental design, and history. Year two introduces more complex studio projects, site visits, and opportunities for study abroad, while year three deepens understanding and focuses on professional practice and management. This progression prepares students for architectural careers.

What you will learn

In the first year you are introduced to the main themes of the discipline: architectural design; structures; construction; environmental design; and the history and theory of architectural design. Key topics include integrated design in architecture and architectural design studio modules. Studio projects will have an added complexity in year two and you will have the opportunity to visit construction sites to gain first-hand knowledge of how designers work. In the second semester there are opportunities to study abroad. In your third year you will develop a thorough understanding of all of the key themes and you will develop your role within the architectural profession as part of the practice and management module.
