About the course

This course offers a comprehensive exploration of history, spanning from ancient Greece and Rome to the modern era, encompassing themes such as politics, empire, gender, slavery, warfare, religion, art, and science. Students will develop skills in historical inquiry and critical analysis by studying primary sources, including texts and artefacts, while connecting these across ancient, medieval, and modern periods. The program extends beyond Europe to regions like North Africa and Asia, and as a joint honours degree, it integrates skills from both subjects, allowing for a unified dissertation theme in the final year.In the first year, core modules provide an introduction to Greek and Roman culture alongside history as a discipline, with options for Ancient Greek or Latin. The second year includes optional Ancient History modules, such as Extended Source Study, and a range of History choices from medieval to contemporary topics. In the final year, students select from scenarios combining special subjects, options, and dissertations that may integrate both fields, ensuring a balanced and flexible curriculum.
