About the course

Are you interested in the science of flight, aircraft design, and manufacturing? This course, taught by leading aviation researchers, equips students with essential skills and advanced knowledge for careers in the aerospace sector. Our department maintains partnerships with key companies, including Airbus, Boeing, and Rolls-Royce Aerospace, offering placement opportunities for practical experience. Enhanced by state-of-the-art facilities and guest lectures, the program provides insights into the evolving aerospace industry. Coursework features hands-on projects and covers core topics such as aerodynamics, avionics, flight mechanics, and human factors, with options to tailor studies in the final year. The curriculum begins with a shared programme for the first two years, focusing on foundational engineering analysis and aircraft technology through practical exercises and lab work. Following this, students undertake a year in industry to gain real-world exposure and boost employability. In the third year, individuals pursue research projects alongside core modules in computer modelling, engineering management, professional practice, certification, safety, and reliability, complemented by specialised options in aeromechanics, aeroelectrical, and general streams.

What you will learn

All students follow a common programme of study for the first two years, studying core material that provides a solid practical foundation in engineering analysis and aircraft technology with hands-on design exercises and laboratory tests. At the end of year two, you will spend a year working in industry where you will gain first-hand experience of the exciting challenges that are faced by aerospace engineers, and will significantly enhance your technical engineering skills and employability. In year three, students will begin their individual research projects as well as undertaking core modules in computer modelling techniques and engineering management, professional practice, certification, safety and reliability. There are also a number of specialised optional modules across the aeromechanics, aeroelectrical and general streams.
