The Bachelor of Arts in Visual Art is a four-year program comprising 120 credit hours, designed as a traditional liberal arts degree. It requires only 24 credit hours in Visual Art beyond the foundational courses, compared to 49 for the more intensive B.F.A. This structure makes it ideal for students pursuing a double major, such as combinations with Psychology, Chemistry, or Museum Studies. In the first year, students build creative and technical skills through Foundations. Subsequently, they select remaining studio courses from Photomedia (in the Department of Design) and seven Visual Art areas: Ceramics, Expanded Media, Metalsmithing/Jewelry, Painting/Drawing, Printmaking, Sculpture, and Textiles/Fibers. The program also includes 12 hours of Art History and a foreign language requirement. All students must complete the KU Core, as mandated since Fall 2013. For details, consult the B.A. in Visual Art Degree Checklist and an academic advisor.
