About the course

KU’s business administration degree will allow you to work in a variety of business fields.  Your communication and leadership skills will make you a competitive candidate for high level management jobs.  To supplement your broad education, you can declare a concentration in an area that interests you.The business administration major requires a total of 120 credit-hours including general education classes, which meet the requirements of the KU Core and additional courses including MATH 115, PSYC 104 and a natural science with lab.  You will also take 20 credit-hours in foundation business classes and 18 credit-hours of core business classes.  For your business administration major you will take 21 credit-hours of business courses 320 and above.  You must choose these from at least three prefixes, including ACCT, BLAW, ENTR, FIN, IBUS, IST, MGMT, MKTG and SCM.  Your career in the business school will culminate in a capstone course, Business Policy & Strategy (MGMT 498), where you will apply the skills you acquire in the business school toward cases and projects. As a KU business student, you will be required to complete an International Dimension Requirement (IDR).  You can meet this by taking foreign language classes or proving equivalent proficiency through the fourth level (intermediate II).  You can also fulfill this requirement by completing six credit-hours through any approved study abroad program or through classes in contemporary regional/international studies or international business. The broad range of skills you will obtain through a degree in business administration will allow you to choose from many different fields.  You will be able to pursue your career based on your interests while also being prepared for a career in higher management.  As a business administration student, it is important to get involved and network.  Take advantage of the BCSC’s shadowing opportunities to learn more about what careers interest you.  Participation in leadership programs like Leadership Challenge or LeaderShape will allow you to build leadership experience for management opportunities.  As a graduate, you will have opportunities across fields allowing you to diversify your résumé and career.
