About the course

The BEd (Hons) is a three-year full-time programme that delivers professional and academic training, leading to the recommendation for Qualified Teacher Status. It equips students with essential skills and subject knowledge to teach the full National Curriculum in primary schools, while fostering specialised expertise to enhance primary education practices. Training emphasises Key Stages 1 and 2 (ages 5–11), though graduates are qualified to teach across the 3–11 age range. This career is challenging yet rewarding, and the programme is designed to build confidence in meeting its demands. Students are typically intelligent, resourceful, and effective communicators, with diverse interests. The School of Education's teaching quality and provisions have received consistent recognition from Ofsted inspections. For a comprehensive list of modules, refer to the 'What will I Study' section on the course page. Assessment is conducted entirely through coursework and practice-based methods. Achieving Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is required for teaching in state schools in England or Wales, and this course offers it at the primary level.
