Ancient History encompasses the examination of historical and cultural developments in Greece, Rome, and the broader Mediterranean region from the 8th century B.C. to the 5th century A.D. Students may opt to study Latin and ancient Greek, while the program includes visits to archaeological sites and museums in Italy and Greece.History explores the dynamics of change and continuity in human societies across time. This comprehensive program teaches diverse methodologies for analyzing the past to inform contemporary understandings in political, economic, ideological, social, and cultural contexts. It features the Centre for Gender History, which collaborates with external organizations on women's and gender issues, and offers courses through the Scottish Centre for War Studies, specializing in warfare and conflict from the medieval era to today.
