Aeronautical Engineering focuses on the design, construction, powering, usage, and safe control of aircraft. Students engage in practical laboratories, such as jet engine testing and flight-testing in a Saab 340B aircraft during the fifth year of the MEng program. Industrial engineers contribute to design classes, with site visits arranged when possible. In the fifth year, MEng students study aircraft handling, operations, and advanced structural analysis, dedicating half the year to project work that can occur in industry, at the university, or abroad. Optional courses are offered in years four and five, with opportunities for projects in Europe and third-year studies at partner universities in the USA and Australia. The school supports student teams in national (IMechE) and international (AIAA) competitions.Graduates have secured positions with organizations like Williams F1, the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority, and Rolls-Royce plc.
