The MPhys in Theoretical Physics at the University of Exeter offers a comprehensive foundation in modern physics while building essential professional skills for a career in the field. The programme focuses on core mainstream physics, balanced with contemporary theoretical methods and applications. Fully accredited by the Institute of Physics, it follows a structured skills development roadmap from the outset, guiding students through topics such as classical physics, quantum mechanics, thermodynamics, relativity, and solid-state physics. Simultaneously, students gain proficiency in key employable skills, including experimental physics, data analysis, critical thinking, problem-solving, science communication, and scientific programming.Additionally, the MPhys degree allows specialization in departmental research areas. In Stages 3 and 4, students participate in a collaborative, open-ended astrophysics research project supervised by experts, providing hands-on experience in modern research and fostering skills as professional researchers.
