About the course

The BA Tourism programme at the Edge Hotel School prepares students for management roles in the UK or internationally, including positions in cruise ships, airlines, events, visitor attractions, and travel organisations. It incorporates first-year work experience in various departments of Wivenhoe House, a 4-star hotel on the Colchester campus, alongside contributions from industry speakers, consultancy projects, and live experiences. Students will collaborate with tourism businesses in Britain's oldest recorded town, rich in history and close to London, the coast, and major airports, engaging with local attractions like Colchester Castle and Visit Essex. The curriculum covers modules such as the tourism business environment, operations, events, visitor attraction management, and special interest tourism. Year one includes up to 22 weeks of teaching, 8 weeks of hotel experience, and 2 weeks of self-study; years two and three feature 16 weeks of teaching, 12 weeks of industry projects, and 2 weeks of self-study. Assessments encompass exams, posters, presentations, reflective statements, reports, a dissertation, and the Professional Performance Assessment for interview skill development.
