About the course

This course addresses key criminological questions, such as how to prevent crime, the rationale for punishment, and the motivations behind criminal acts, engaging with pressing societal issues. Delivered in partnership with the Department of Psychosocial and Psychoanalytic Studies, it explores crime, society, and counselling, focusing on emotional challenges and human relationships. Students develop effective interpersonal skills to provide empathetic support in professional contexts.The curriculum covers topics including criminal justice systems, crime in the media, mental health treatment, counselling skills, and relationships. It includes training in sociological research methods like survey design, interviews, and focus groups, alongside psychodynamic concepts for understanding unconscious dynamics. Taught by experts in sociology and psychosocial studies, the program offers opportunities for practical experience, international study, work placements, and a supervised dissertation to prepare for graduate careers.
