About the course

About This CourseTrain to excel in an important and highly valued area of nursing. As a children’s nurse, you could have an incredibly positive impact on the health and wellbeing of young people, from newborns to 19-year-olds. On this course, you’ll discover the health and wellbeing needs of children and young people and learn how to give growing minds and bodies the care and support they need. You’ll explore developmental anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology, and discover the emotional and social development needs of children and young people too. You’ll learn how to care for the unwell, as well as how to promote healthy development and prevent physical and mental ill health. OverviewYour Children’s Nursing degree will prepare you for essential nursing practice, working in partnership with children, young people and their families, providing care to those with acute, long-term and complex and disabling healthcare conditions and needs. This includes mental health care, as younger people living with long-term conditions are vulnerable to developing emotional disorders. As well as learning how to care for children and young people who are unwell, you’ll also learn how to help them and those who care for them to foster healthy behaviours contributing to their health and wellbeing into adulthood. Your programme includes partnership working with other healthcare students, gaining unique insight into other professional perspectives. This will enable you to cultivate the collaborative and adaptable approach that is essential to a successful nursing career. Your studies will be split 50/50 between theory and practice, developing a robust understanding of the evidence base and skills required to provide optimum person and family centred care. Your placements cover a range of experiences in acute, primary and community settings with a range of placement providers. You will graduate able to meet the physical, cognitive, emotional and social developmental needs of children and young people, with a variety of clinical conditions and complex health challenges, in a wide range of healthcare settings. With the NHS Constitution at its core, our Children’s Nursing degree provides rigorous training, fantastic placement opportunities and is fully approved by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
