About the course

This course explores how societies' views, beliefs, and actions are reflected in visual and material culture, from prehistory to the present. Based at the renowned Sainsbury Centre in Norwich, students join a unique community as part of the UK's only Art History Department housed in a world-class museum. The program offers a robust foundation in archaeology, anthropology, and art history, equipping learners with skills to analyse global artefacts and interpret the past's influence on the present.Emphasising creativity as a worldwide phenomenon, the course covers European art alongside works from Africa, Asia, Oceania, and the Americas. Students engage with collections designed by Norman Foster, examining objects, collecting processes, and diverse audiences under expert guidance. As part of an international network, including the Sainsbury Research Unit and Institute, opportunities arise for connections with museums, leading to careers in cultural and heritage fields.
