About the course

On the BA History with a Placement Year, explore diverse topics from decoding the Bayeux Tapestry and Henry VIII’s armour to the social power of jazz, spanning the Roman Empire to Thatcher’s Britain. Taught by internationally recognised historians, you’ll examine political, social, economic, and cultural forces worldwide—from Britain and its empire, Europe, the Middle East, South and East Asia, to North America—while developing skills to interpret sources and communicate ideas. With flexibility at its core, build on first-year foundations by selecting optional modules in years two and four, tailoring studies to your interests. Spend 9-12 months of year three on a placement for valuable work experience. Norwich’s medieval heritage and our campus’s research strengths in British, European, and global history, plus partnerships like Norfolk Museums, enhance hands-on learning. Graduates excel in civil service, media, law, finance, heritage, teaching, and more; the degree provides a strong foundation for further study.
