About the course

Developmental psychology examines cognitive, emotional, and social growth, particularly in infancy, childhood, and adolescence. This programme integrates core psychology studies with developmental perspectives on cognition and behaviour, allowing students to explore theoretical ideas, research evidence, and critical evaluation of contemporary theories while fostering original insights. Delivered through research-led teaching in varied group sizes, the School of Psychology at UEA ranks 14th for research quality in its field (Times Higher Education REF 2021). Students receive support from academic advisors and university wellbeing teams, with options to select modules on typical and atypical development, such as autism spectrum disorder and ADHD, and switch pathways in the first year. The third year involves studying abroad at partner universities across Asia, Europe, North America, Australia, and New Zealand, enhancing career skills. In the final year, access to advanced facilities like the Developmental Dynamics Lab and virtual reality suite supports an individual research project. This course suits careers in child and adolescent psychology, education, health, and welfare, providing a foundation for postgraduate studies, alongside career support like placements and training.
