About the course

The MEng Degree in Structural Engineering with Architecture is designed to provide an education meeting the academic requirements necessary to achieve CEng status, through the professional engineering institutions.The main aims of the programme are to enable students to:Acquire knowledge, understanding and skills of the advanced principles relevant to structural engineering, with architecture embedded at relevant parts, and ability to apply these –particularly in key areas of structural theory and design, sustainability in construction and construction management;Develop an understanding of the key aspects of architecture relevant to structural engineeringHave an awareness of latest developments, including state-of-the-art tools and methods, and confidence in their application and use in real life structural engineering design and construction situationsAppreciate the principles of sustainability and develop the ability to apply these in the design, material selection and construction processes;Have an awareness of their ethical, social, cultural, environmental and health and safety responsibilitiesDevelop their analytical and critical abilities, and skills in innovative and creative problem solvingEvaluate, analyse, interpret and present data and make deductions concerning trends and knowledge gapsDevelop effective skills in communication, using a wide variety of tools and mediaWork independently or in a range of different groups, assuming a variety of rolesDevelop an ethos of quality in work as a matter of routineIdentify further learning and training needs, and take the necessary steps to acquire more advanced personal and professional skills
