Mathematics and Astrophysics, BSc (Hons)

Mathematical models and applications underpin modern scientific advancements, with physics serving as the foundational science that explores the nature and properties of matter and energy. This course integrates modules from mathematics and astrophysics, offering studies in both pure and applied mathematics. Graduates will be equipped to apply mathematical principles to real-world problems, utilizing extensive computer-based tools and software to prepare for industry demands.Concurrently, students will delve into astrophysics, covering fundamental physics topics from astronomical phenomena and quantum mechanics to advanced areas such as space physics, stars, planetary systems, galaxies, and the universe. The programme is enriched by active Physics and Maths student societies, which organise annual events and international trips to sites like the European Space Agency, CERN, and the Niels Bohr Institute. These societies also provide valuable peer support, connecting students across year groups to navigate challenging aspects of the course.
