This course offers a comprehensive study of English literature, spanning from the medieval era to the present day. It begins with a foundational overview of the subject, allowing students to select modules tailored to their interests, including topics from Shakespeare and science fiction to Romantic poetry, Victorian novels, Hollywood films, and the intersection of graphic novels with canonical works. The program emphasizes analytical skills, such as poem analysis and critical reading of novels, before delving into historical surveys and detailed explorations of literary periods and movements. Modules reflect the diverse expertise of our staff, with opportunities to complement studies in Levels 1 and 2 through additional subjects in Humanities or Social Sciences, like History or Philosophy. We maintain strong ties with local creative institutions, including the Dundee Rep Theatre and V&A Dundee, and support activities through groups like JOOT and the DURA review magazine.
