Community Education (CE) encompasses youth work, adult and family learning, and community development, with professionals dedicated to social justice by creating learning opportunities tailored to personal, social, economic, and political needs.This course involves placements in community organizations to engage with individuals and groups for positive social change. It explores the historical and philosophical foundations of practice, alongside relevant policies and political ideas. Students will analyze social justice, equalities, political perspectives, values, and socio-economic trends, while enhancing critical thinking and reflection. The curriculum covers community work theories to refine personal approaches and fosters a deep understanding of CE's values, principles, ethics, and competencies. Reflecting current practices in Scotland, the UK, and worldwide, the course is endorsed by the CLD Standards Council Scotland.
