About the course

At Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design, we closely mirror animation industry practices, where students work on briefs and explore professional production methods across various specialisms. Our dynamic course evolves with the industry, fostering new skills in emerging processes and software. Graduates have contributed to acclaimed projects like Game of Thrones, Spider-Man: Far From Home, and Disney Channel productions, highlighting our reputation for producing employable talent. Each student benefits from a personal workspace in our lively, collaborative studios.Key subjects include principles of 2D and 3D character animation, narrative structure, storyboarding, character design, concept and production design, life drawing, acting, and production scheduling. As students advance, they specialise in areas such as 3D modelling, texturing, rigging, lighting, compositing, 2D layouts, backgrounds, or effects animation. Supported by industry speakers and mentors, students collaborate on short films and individual showreels to demonstrate their expertise. Our facilities feature animation studios, labs with software like Maya, ZBrush, TV Paint, Photoshop, and After Effects, plus a green screen and drama studio.
