About the course

This joint honours degree enables students to integrate the study of film with Portuguese, taught from beginners' level, a language spoken across diverse global regions. The growing demand for Portuguese speakers, driven by the political significance of nations like Angola and Brazil, provides a robust intellectual challenge and cosmopolitan outlook. In the Department of Film and Television, students engage with leading experts to examine the history, criticism, and production contexts of film and television, including theoretical analysis and practical filmmaking. Alongside this, they explore Portuguese language, history, and culture through a variety of tailored options in a dynamic, research-driven environment. The third year involves a study or work placement in a Portuguese-speaking country to enhance language proficiency and cultural insight. Upon returning for the final year in Bristol, students can pursue guided projects, such as placements in the creative industries.
