About the course

This joint honours degree integrates the study of film with French language and Francophone culture, ideal for those with a curious mind and enthusiasm for exploring diverse societies. Both departments provide a dynamic, research-driven learning environment. French can be studied from beginner or advanced levels, while in the Film and Television Department, students engage with film history, criticism, contexts, theoretical approaches, production techniques, and creative filmmaking under expert guidance.Students will combine film studies with French language, history, and culture modules, selecting from various options to align with personal interests. As French is spoken by millions worldwide, its cultures offer rich exploration. The third year involves a study or work placement in a French-speaking country to enhance language and cultural proficiency. Upon returning for the final year, opportunities include guided projects and placements in the creative industries. For more on studying abroad, visit bristol.ac.uk/centre-for-study-abroad.
