Our BA (Hons) Television Production degree offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the television industry at Maidstone Television Studios, the only such program in the country. You will gain hands-on experience in various roles, honing skills as an expert storyteller while collaborating in a small, supportive group with knowledgeable staff. Graduates often secure three to four credits on major broadcasts, including projects like FIFA eSports, This Time with Alan Partridge, Family Fortunes, and Jools Holland’s Hootenanny, fostering lifelong connections.The curriculum progresses from Year 1, where you develop screenwriting, directing, and documentary skills while engaging in theoretical studies, to Year 2, focusing on news production, experimental content, and live studio work. In Year 3, you specialize in a production role, creating a major project and dissertation, alongside related options like BA (Hons) Film Production and BA (Hons) Film & Screen Studies.
In Year 1 you'll be introduced to the key creative skill of conceiving, developing and writing a professionally formatted screenplay, and then producing a short film from the script. You'll explore the key production role of the director and be introduced to highly sophisticated documentary production skills. You'll also look at key theoretical concepts and ideas, allowing you to engage with academic research, critical debate and writing. In Year 2 you'll explore current affairs and journalism through the production of an original news programme for a dedicated platform. You'll also explore experimental and adaptive content creation and production skills through the researching, planning and execution of a short film. You'll also work with your year group to produce a live studio production. In Year 3 you'll focus on your chosen production role and produce a detailed pre-production package for your major project, and you'll produce your dissertation.
