Embark on a professional path in games development through the BSc (Hons) Games Development programme at UCA Farnham, where you will specialise in key industry growth areas. This course emphasises creative gameplay programming, equipping you to collaborate effectively with artists, designers, and teams. You will master programming for gameplay mechanics using game engines and develop skills as a technical artist to enhance character and environment visuals.In the first year, build foundational programming expertise in relevant languages and game engines. The second year focuses on technical art, specialisation, and personal interests using advanced tools. In the final year, complete a tailored project while exploring industry economics, management, and legal aspects, preparing you for a highly sought-after career in games. Related courses include BA (Hons) Comic & Concept Art and BA (Hons) Games Animation, among others. Modules cover design processes, prototyping, and team-based game production.

What you will learn

Year 1 will take you through fundamental games design processes, the technical foundations of 2D and 3D programming, as well as planning. You’ll share theoretical units with students on the Computer Games Arts course. Year 2 will build upon your planning, design and prototyping skills. You’ll start to specialise in a defined area, and continue to undertake shared units with students on the Computer Games Arts course. Year 3 will introduce you to the economics and management of the industry, as well as copyright, patents and legal concerns. You’ll work as part of a team to produce a prototype game, and you’ll also write a practice-based dissertation.
