About the course

Embark on a BSc (Hons) Games Development degree at UCA Farnham to specialise in the thriving games industry. This programme emphasises creative gameplay programming, preparing you to collaborate with artists, designers, and programmers. You will master programming for game mechanics using engines and develop technical art skills to optimise characters and environments. In the first year, build foundational programming knowledge and fluency in industry-relevant languages within game engines. The second year advances technical art and personal specialisation, while the final year covers industry economics, management, legal issues, a team prototype game, and a practice-based dissertation. These skills equip you for a sought-after career in the games sector.

What you will learn

Year 1 will take you through fundamental games design processes, the technical foundations of 2D and 3D programming, as well as planning. You’ll share theoretical units with students on the Computer Games Arts course. Year 2 will build upon your planning, design and prototyping skills. You’ll start to specialise in a defined area, and continue to undertake shared units with students on the Computer Games Arts course. Year 3 will introduce you to the economics and management of the industry, as well as copyright, patents and legal concerns.
