Course summary

Is your imagination bursting with concepts for new worlds and characters? Then our practice-based BA (Hons) Games Arts degree course at UCA Farnham could be for you. This course, which is accredited by The Rookies, focuses on workflows for 2D concept and 3D art for video games. You’ll develop skills in 3D modelling and texturing and connect them with your drawing skills to create pro-level games assets, like characters, environments and props which make your favourite games come to life. You’ll develop your skills using world-class facilities, with high-end hardware, plus the latest software and games engines.You’ll also benefit from opportunities to collaborate with students on our other games courses and make the most of our exceptional industry links to brands like Rebellion, SEGA, Creative Assembly, and Supermassive Games. Modules

In Year 1 you'll learn the key art skills and software knowledge needed to communicate ideas and create tangible art assets in the context of entertainment design and games development. You'll explore observational drawing practice and 3D art production, as well as game concepts, design and programming. In Year 2 you'll investigate the historical, theoretical and aesthetic dimensions of gaming practice. Working in a studio environment centred around industry roles, you’ll produce a ‘Vertical Slice’ for an original game prototype. You'll also construct an AAA studio style prop based on a photograph or concept of your choosing. In Year 3 you'll undertake self-directed pre-production of an individual or group project, and produce a dissertation relating to the contextual and/or theoretical concerns of your chosen area of practice.
