About the course

Our BA (Hons) Games Animation degree at UCA Farnham equips students to animate designs with character, movement, and expression, while mastering the fundamentals of animation for video games. This specialised programme delves into the technical and creative aspects of 3D artistry and design, supported by advanced facilities such as motion capture and VR technology. Students develop expressive characters and gain expertise in 3D modelling, preparing for careers in animation, motion capture, or VFX.The curriculum spans three years: Year 1 focuses on drawing, animation, character development, and software like Autodesk Maya, including concept art and digital sets. Year 2 encourages independent specialisation, with options for industry placements or study abroad. In Year 3, students undertake sophisticated CGI projects and a dissertation, demonstrating innovative approaches to animation. Related courses include BA (Hons) Animation, Comic & Concept Art, Games Arts, and BSc (Hons) Games Development, all with professional practice options.

What you will learn

In Year 1 you'll explore drawing, animation and character, and learning how to use Autodesk Maya and supporting software. You'll investigate ways in which space can be represented dynamically through the development and production of original concept art and an original digital set. You'll also develop a complete computer generated animation and explore how we receive information about the world in which we live. In Year 2 the focus is on finding your own specialist way of working and you’ll be encouraged and supported to start working more independently. During this year you may also have the opportunity to complete an industry work placement or even study abroad.. In Year 3 you’ll execute a creatively and technically sophisticated project. We'll require you to demonstrate innovative and sophisticated approaches to CGI and animation, supported by an advanced creative methodology. You'll also undertake a dissertation.
