About the course

On the BMus (Hons) Composition for Screen degree at UCA Farnham, students study and create music alongside peers from fields like animation, acting, filmmaking, and game design, collaborating on innovative projects. The course provides interdisciplinary opportunities, training in advanced technologies, and industry connections through live briefs and work placements. It integrates contemporary practices, encouraging exploration of global audiences and diverse cultural traditions, while supporting students via lectures, seminars, and tutorials to develop and professionally produce their work, including performances by musicians.Related courses include BA (Hons) Music & Sound Production, BA (Hons) Film Production, and BA (Hons) Music Business & Management, all with a Professional Practice Year option. This year, in the third year, involves an industry placement with reduced tuition fees (up to 20% of the second-year rate), though additional travel and accommodation costs apply. International applicants must enrol with this option from the start.

What you will learn

If you opt to complete a professional practice year, this will take place in year three. You will undertake a placement within the creative industries to further develop your skills and CV. While on your Professional Practice Year, you will be required to pay a reduced tuition fee for that year. This fee will be determined using government funding regulations. Based on current regulations, we expect this to be a maximum of 20% of the tuition fee rate that you are charged for your second year of study. You will also incur additional travel and accommodation costs during this year. The University will provide you with further advice and guidance about this as you approach your Professional Practice Year. Please note: If you are an international applicant, you will need to enrol onto the course ‘with Professional Practice Year’. It will not be possible to transfer onto the Professional Practice Year after enrolment
