In an increasingly uncertain and fast-paced world, issues of human needs, welfare, inequality, and wealth distribution dominate public discourse and underpin social policy. This degree program equips students to examine how emerging social risks and precarity affect individuals and communities, and how they are addressed through policy. Students will critically analyze historical perspectives, diverse conceptual frameworks, and the complexities of policy-making and governance at regional, national, and international levels.Graduates achieve strong employment outcomes in the public sector, including roles in local or central government for policy formulation and service management, as well as in voluntary organizations, campaigning groups, and social research. They are prepared for careers in management, consultancy, or further studies like PhDs or MScs in areas such as Social Policy or Criminology. The program offers exemptions for professional qualifications in housing and health management and provides a route to fast-track social work training. Comprising two-thirds social policy and one-third sociology, it draws on classical and contemporary theories to enhance understanding.
