This course provides an in-depth exploration of journalism's theory and practice, influenced by key factors such as law, economics, politics, and technology. It equips students with essential practical and professional skills, offering a foundational understanding of media studies and journalism techniques to support advanced modules in Years 2 and 3. Participants will study journalism theory, law, public affairs, and hands-on newsgathering and reporting across platforms including audiovisual (television and radio), print, online, and mobile.Teaching methods include lectures, group seminars, and practical workshops, delivered by experienced staff, including former journalists. Students gain access to professional resources such as print production tools, digital sound and video software, television and radio studios, and a simulated newsroom environment. Note that this course does not award Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), which is required for teaching roles in state schools in England or Wales.
