About the course

This interdisciplinary, skills-focused degree programme offers students a comprehensive understanding of applied communication studies across interpersonal, professional, social, and cultural contexts, drawing on theoretical, empirical, and experiential approaches. It introduces key counselling theories, skills, and ethical decision-making, while equipping learners to identify and pursue interdisciplinary research in communication, counselling studies, and mental health. The programme also fosters essential organisational, observation, analytical, and reflective skills for ongoing personal and professional growth, serving as a foundation for careers in counselling, psychotherapy, or other healthcare fields.Delivered by an award-winning team of lecturers, researchers, and practitioners with expertise in mental health, including counselling and health communication, the course holds Advanced Training Status from the National Counselling Society (NCS). Although not formal counsellor training, it provides a strong academic base for pursuing professional accreditation in counselling or psychotherapy, as well as further studies in fields such as social work, nursing, medicine, law, business, and teaching.
