About the course

This degree enhances language skills and historical awareness, deepening understanding of cultures and societies across Europe and beyond. It hones analytical, practical, and linguistic abilities essential for international historical research and future career success. Students explore past societies from antiquity to the modern era, focusing on political and social themes, viewed through the lens of one or two languages. The flexible dual honours programme allows customization via modules in linguistics, literature, society, politics, philosophy, and film studies, fostering independent judgement, critical analysis, effective argumentation, and advanced language proficiency.Unique features include combining History with one or two of ten languages (German, French, Russian, Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch, Czech, Catalan, Italian, Luxembourgish) for richer cultural insight. The research-led History Special Subject offers year-long specialization in small-group seminars with experts. A third-year abroad immerses students in their chosen language's culture and society.
