English and History, BA (Hons)

The English and History combined course equips students to critically analyze a wide array of literary texts, including film, theatre, poetry, and prose, by situating them within their historical, social, and political contexts. Spanning from the medieval period to the present, the program offers pathways in English Literature or English Language, allowing exploration of diverse genres such as journalism, digital writing, and creative works, alongside global historical topics from 1000 BCE to the 21st century.This interdisciplinary approach fosters confident research skills, enabling deep interpretation of texts and events across time and place. Through research-led special subjects in small-group seminars and one-on-one supervision, students specialize in their areas of interest, while work placements provide practical experience to enhance employability and build professional networks.
