About the course

Through the study of computer science in this comprehensive three-year BSc, students learn to address theoretical issues underlying problems and engineer effective solutions. The curriculum encourages experimentation in areas such as speech recognition, voice synthesis, text summarisation, machine translation, robot learning, computational biology, and virtual reality. Alongside programming and analytical thinking, students develop teamwork and communication skills, including collaborative projects from year two to solve real client problems. The final year focuses on a dissertation project with opportunities for creative exploration, plus elective modules in theoretical and applied computer science, AI, and software engineering taught by research leaders. This course builds employability through professional skills training and group work. Students access specialist facilities, including cutting-edge hardware, software, high-spec graphics computers, and a robotics arena in dedicated labs at The Diamond. Ongoing support is provided by a dedicated student welfare advisor for academic and personal challenges.
