About the course

This specialist course is designed to equip students for the evolving demands of the healthcare and pharmaceutical sectors, integrating core chemistry with advanced topics like pharmacokinetics, toxicology, and drug design. In the first year of the Chemistry with Biological and Medicinal Chemistry MChem at Sheffield, foundational subjects provide the necessary base for exploring specialised areas. Students will engage with cutting-edge concepts, including environmental and sustainable chemistry, chemistry in space, supramolecular chemistry, and molecular modelling, while gaining hands-on experience with industry-standard software and the option to undertake a final-year research project in biological and medicinal chemistry.Reasons to pursue this course include its accreditation by the Royal Society of Chemistry, meeting criteria for Chartered Chemist status. It is taught by experts with industry experience, offers practical laboratory training in the first two years and independent research in advanced facilities during the third year, emphasises sustainability through core and optional modules, and provides guaranteed summer research placements for eligible students via the Undergraduate Research Scholarship scheme.
