About the course

This flexible Biomedical Engineering MEng programme inspires students to advance sustainable healthcare technology. It begins with a broad introduction to bioengineering, covering biology, physiology, anatomy, and the application of traditional engineering principles to the human body. Taught by an expert team of industry professionals, clinicians, and academics at Sheffield for over a decade, the course integrates disciplines like tissue engineering, biotechnology, mechanics, and robotics to enhance health and quality of life. The four-year MEng includes specialisms from the second year: Biomedical Engineering for health enhancement, Medical Devices and Systems for innovative technologies, Biomaterials Science and Tissue Engineering for tissue repair, or Biomanufacturing for pharmaceutical production. With extended project work, including group and individual research, students develop management skills. Ranked in the top five for bioengineering by The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2024, the programme offers state-of-the-art facilities and global challenges to boost career prospects.
