About the course

This course mirrors our aerospace engineering degree but incorporates initial flight training, offering an extra year of in-depth study over four years to prepare graduates for industry careers. Through an integrated MEng, students combine practical flying and aircraft-building experience with a comprehensive understanding of aerospace engineering principles. The program integrates core theories in propulsion, instrumentation, computation, and aerodynamics, allowing specialization in avionic systems or aeromechanics. Alongside theoretical modules, participants receive ground training, five hours of flight instruction, and opportunities to engage with the Yorkshire Universities Air Squadron. Students also develop project management and interdisciplinary communication skills, culminating in a final-year research project under leading academics. This pathway serves as an excellent foundation for pursuing a UK or European private pilot's licence post-graduation.Reasons to study include our top-five ranking in aeronautical and manufacturing engineering by The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2024, and top Russell Group status in the National Student Survey 2023. Access state-of-the-art facilities for hands-on jet engine training, gain real industry experience through study abroad, placements, and competitions, and participate in the Global Engineering Challenge to solve problems in developing countries, enhancing professional development and career prospects.
