Data science is assuming a more prominent and contentious role in legal practice and the broader legal system. Yet, few lawyers possess expertise in data analysis or machine learning. This situation raises concerns for justice delivery, as inadequate methods are frequently used by those lacking legal knowledge. Conversely, it offers opportunities for individuals with combined expertise to leverage data science for improving access to justice, boosting settlement rates, and enhancing the efficiency of legal processes. The Data Science and Decisions/Law program is jointly provided by UNSW Law and Justice and UNSW Science.
