Approximately 150 million people worldwide speak Russian, a language prominent in global cultural and political spheres. It serves as the official language in four countries, is widely understood across Eastern Europe, and has experienced significant transnational spread in recent decades, with substantial Russian-speaking communities now in China, Central Asia, the United States, and Western Europe.Our flexible four-year programme offers intensive Russian language study, enabling students to build advanced skills in speaking, writing, reading, listening, and translation. Courses in Year 1 are tailored to varying levels of prior knowledge, welcoming beginners. Students will delve into Russian and Russophone literature, culture, history, and politics, with honours-year options including comparative literature, social contexts of the language, and post-Soviet culture.
