The Gaelic language is integral to Scotland's heritage, identity, and cultural expressions, including literature, music, and education. Our MA (Hons) in Primary Education with Gaelic (Learners) uniquely equips non-Gaelic speakers to become Gaelic-medium primary teachers, addressing national shortages. Over five years, students immerse themselves on the Isle of Skye at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig, complete a full-year placement in a Gaelic-medium school, and gain qualifications to teach in Gaelic or English. The programme includes dedicated courses on bilingualism, a £1,000 grant, and ensures career viability while supporting Gaelic's future.Edinburgh offers a dynamic Gaelic community with conversation groups, festivals, and events. Through the University of Edinburgh's School of Literatures, Languages and Cultures, students access research on Gaelic technologies and revitalisation efforts. Partnerships with Moray House School of Education provide mental health support, while the degree leads to Qualified Teacher Status for primary education.
