About the course

On MA Latin Studies, you will study Latin language and literature, along with courses that place Latin in its wider context. Latin was the language of the most powerful and durable empire of the classical world. It remained the principal language of scholarship, record and literature in western Europe for more than 1,000 years thereafter. On this programme you will:

  • receive advanced and robust training in Latin
  • read a broad selection of works of classical literature in their original language
  • have the opportunity to read texts from the late republic and early empire down to Late Antiquity and the medieval period in various contexts, including historical, religious, intellectual
You will also be able to take courses on the history and culture of the Roman and Latin-speaking world.
