Latin Studies, MA (Hons)

The MA in Latin Studies provides comprehensive training in the Latin language and literature, alongside courses that situate Latin within its broader historical and cultural contexts. As the language of the ancient Roman Empire, Latin served as the dominant medium for scholarship, records, and literature in Western Europe for over 1,000 years.This programme offers advanced instruction in Latin, allowing students to read a wide array of classical texts in their original language. Participants can explore works from the late Republic and early Empire through to Late Antiquity and the medieval period, examining their historical, religious, and intellectual dimensions. Additionally, courses on the history and culture of the Roman and Latin-speaking world are available.
