About the course

This comprehensive joint honours programme allows you to explore two complementary European languages, French and Italian, within their rich cultural settings. Through rigorous language training, including a full year abroad, you can develop advanced oral and written proficiency in both languages, even without prior Italian knowledge. Alongside language courses, you will examine aspects of Francophone and Italian culture spanning from the Middle Ages to the present, encompassing literature, art, cinema, political history, social movements, and philosophical concepts.Edinburgh, as a premier festival city and Scotland's capital, provides an ideal environment for cultural language studies. Uniquely, our four-year programme guarantees a complete academic year abroad for all students, whether for study or work, and offers flexibility in Years 1 and 2 with optional courses across various disciplines before specialising later. Graduates emerge with a well-rounded education in the arts and humanities, combined with expertise in two modern languages, highly regarded by global employers.
