Architectural History and Heritage explores buildings and places through a unique undergraduate programme, the only one of its kind at this level in the UK. This small, diverse course is delivered by specialist, research-active faculty who examine the built environment not only as design but also as a lens for understanding broader social, cultural, and political themes in history, alongside contemporary heritage issues. To investigate the built environment's history, we draw on various sources, including standing buildings, architectural plans, drawings, written materials, films, and photographs. Teaching incorporates lectures, tutorials, seminars, site visits leveraging Edinburgh's resources, and independent study with the University's extensive libraries. We collaborate with organisations such as Historic Environment Scotland and the National Trust for Scotland, often providing heritage sector placements in Years 3 and 4.
A local representative of The University of Edinburgh in Singapore is available online to assist you with enquiries about this course.
