Translation Studies, BA (Hons), with study abroad

If you want to focus on gaining practical skills in translation alongside fluency in one or two languages, from French, German, Italian and Spanish, this specially designed four-year degree programme is for you.As a modern linguist, you will not only learn to speak and write fluently, you will also develop excellent communication and research skills and combine language proficiency with cross-cultural perspectives.As a part of Royal Holloway’s close-knit international community based in our beautiful historic campus, you will be within easy reach of London with its wealth of cultural resources.Whether you are an advanced or native-speaker level student when you start, by the time you graduate you will be fluent in one or two languages, confident in reading, understanding and analysing text in your chosen language(s) and English, and able to write with ease and accuracy.In your third year you will have the opportunity to spend time working, teaching or studying abroad, where you will immerse yourself in another language and culture, truly broadening your horizons in the process.

• On graduation you will have learnt the theories of translation and practice, with critical skills in professional translation and a focus on translating into English, applying what you have learnt throughout your degree.

• Our research staff are engaged in research at the highest level internationally; we are in the top 10 of UK Modern Language departments for research quality and the top in London (Research Assessment Exercise 2014).
