About the course

The world is grappling with significant environmental challenges that impact plants, animals, and humans. This course delves into ecological principles, natural ecosystems, and conservation strategies, examining community and ecosystem dynamics involving habitats, flora, fauna, and human interactions. Through lectures, practical exercises, and fieldwork, students explore solutions to issues like environmental impact assessments and global food security, while developing key skills in species identification, environmental law, and Geographical Information Systems (GIS). It also addresses the social and economic factors underlying these problems, allowing customization via optional modules in the final year. The program covers essential modules across three years: Year One includes Principles of Ecology and Biodiversity Conservation; Year Two features Applied Habitat Management and Environmental Monitoring; and the Final Year involves a Dissertation and options like field courses. Assessment emphasizes coursework (67% in Year One, 83% in Years Two and Three), with written exams comprising the remainder.
